Michelle Markert's passion for interior design began in childhood. Her favorite playtime activity was decorating her dollhouse. Whether she was rearranging the furniture or sewing curtains and pillows from fabric scraps, she was always trying to enhance its appearance. Michelle’s family always seemed to be building a house or renovating one, so paint samples, cabinet finishes, and fabric swatches were an extension of Michelle’s toys!​

Michelle began her career in financial services, and she obtained an MBA from Babson College in their accelerated 1-year program. Her first apartment looked like it belonged to someone with a "real" salary as she managed to create a fabulous space on a limited budget. She became known for her sense of style, and friends relied on her for her design expertise. 

While working at Fidelity Investments, Michelle met her husband. Together they purchased a rundown Victorian in 1998. The construction and design processes she worked through while restoring their home energized Michelle. She realized that the design field was where she belonged, and she founded Michelle Markert Interiors in 2005, shortly after the births of her three children.

Michelle takes time to get to know her clients and understand their lifestyles and budget before making recommendations. Her goal is to appreciate how her clients live and what is important to them so she can ensure that their homes reflect both their needs and personalities. As a parent and business owner she believes that functionality and practicality are just as important as beauty. She combines her creative vision and skills with an understanding of how her clients function; this collaborative process results in spaces that are inviting, livable, and beautiful.

In addition to running her design firm, since 2019 Michelle has partnered with her brother at Veatch Property Development to build speculative homes in Needham and Newton, Massachusetts. This collaboration allows her to merge her creative vision with practical execution, creating homes that resonate on aesthetic and functional levels.
